In simple terms, a podcast is a downloadable radio-style show in a
single digital file. This file can be listened to on a computer or any device
that will play an MP3 such as an iPod (hence the name podcast). One of the
things that have made podcasts interesting to content owners is the way in
which users can subscribe to specific podcasts so that their portable player
will automatically download new podcasts when they are made available.
This makes podcasts a powerful promotional tool.
An increasing amount of portable media players now also support video playback, which means that there is a growing market for video podcasting. A video podcast can include live footage, interviews, or extracts from music videos. Video podcasts are also great for promoting music DVDs.
